Kalamaki Rstaurant
« on: July 28, 2009, 10:12:30 PM »
We just returned from Kalkan this morning (missing it already!) and I simply had to review the wonderful Kalamaki restaurant. I was lucky enough to celebrate my birthday there on Saturday and Tafur (& his lovely staff) couldn't have made it more perfect. Everything about the restaurant is classy, upscale and quite simply in a league of its own. The decor, location, atmosphere and ambience are stunning and I can't recommend the place highly enough.

The menu offered an excellent selection of both Turkish and International cuisine - we opted for the mezze platter to start (served with delicious flatbread),  veggie kebabs (served with rice) and Seabass. Everything sounded so tempting it was hard to choose! I had fresh fruit salad with ice cream for dessert which like everything else was beautifully presented.

The roof terrace is stunning with beautiful views of Kalkan and the sea. The staff are very friendly and attentive without being intrusive. This place really feels like a special treat. Tayfur deserves to do well here as he has clearly put his heart, soul and years of experience into this place. I simply can't recommend Kalamaki highly enough - you will certainkly have a very memorable meal here.  ;)

Where is Kalamaki? It sounds like another "must-try" to add to the list. Every year we have this dilemma... stick with our tried and tested favourites, or try something new?

Of course, what always happens is we try new ones... and our "favourites" list changes every year!!!  8)

It's where Coast used to be and have to agree it's fabulous. One of my new favourites. The food is fantastic and as angelwings has said Tafur deserves for this place to be successful. Love it!

If it's where Coast used to be, that's easy enough to find! Haven't been to the new Coast at Gironda yet, because they weren't open in early May when we were there.

That's two new ones to try, then.

Make that three, including the Nar.

Is this run by the people who had the old Kalamaki?

Yes: agree with all the rave reviews. This restaurant has got it right: lovely food, interesting menu, good wine list, portion size just right for us (ie not too big), attentive but not intrusive staff.

If you go on to KTLN and look at the Old Town web camera, the Kalamaki is the restaurant on the left.

I agree with all the positive comments regarding Kalamaki, food is excellent. I can thoroughly recommend the stuffed sea bass with spinach, it's yummy, my favourtie main course of the holiday.

Have to agree, we got back from Kalkan yesterday(will do full report over next few days) and ate here twice, we chose it as the place to have our last night meal as it was so nice. The decor is very contemporary, staff and service excellent and food excellent. Both times i had the sword fish skewers and both times my husband had the plank steaks. Can highly recommend.

Wow! What a recommendation - twice eating the same, AND choosing it for your last meal; therefore it has to be on my list for 3 weeks time!  (Nicky, I can't wait to hear how you got on - I'm checking EK every hour!!)

cheers

We four also had a lovely meal there. With a bottle of wine and 3 efes, starters and  4 mains it cost about £65 (bearing in mind wine is about 24 lire in most restaurants). Well worth it! Another lovely meal was at e Baharat (Hassan and Mandy). Melt in your mouth steak and lamb -  delicious - also very reasonably priced!
