Just been to our bank, YapiKredi, and got 3.95TL to pound so moved some money from our Sterling account to our TL account. Our reason to visiting bank was to renew a Time Deposit account. If only one had a crystal ball to see when the best exchange rate occurred.

Cheers

Last night you could get 3.85 if you carry on walking down to the gift shop about 30m past moonlight bar.

This will all reflect on the prices here in the shops etc so don't expect cheap beers, food, etc, already feeling it, buying fruit & veg in the market & supermarkets.

3.9 in the book shop  but asDRBD days the prices are up with inflation and a bit of profiteering no doubt

Currently 4.17 /19 TL to GBP. Surely it can't weaken much more. Is it time to exchange GBP for the next few years holiday spends? Anyone have any thoughts on this.

We got 4tl to the £ last week from our bank in UK - I ordered some before the General Election, just in case the result affected the value of sterling.
If you are getting 3.9-4 in town, its come down a bit. I saw some photos of Kalkan last week where various businesses were offereing 4.10.
Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt :)

It will still take me a week to get to grips with it :-[
Every year, BH has to make me a "ready reckoner" idiots guide to keep in my purse, so I dont have to do the mental maths. He describes it as painful when I run out of fingers and toes....

Us men are good at working out exchange rates in our heads..it's easy Divide cost of "that" Bag or Piece of jewellery by 4...Go all wobbly kneed..exclaim "how bloody much!"..go for a beer and then times cost of a beer into cost of how many "that" bag or piece of jewellery would have bought!...simples ::) :P

Strange isn't it, that when we have currency issues in the UK, (up or down), it's reported in the press that this will make it more, or less - depending on what direction - expensive when we go abroad.

Kalkan seems immune to this phenomena - when the pound gets stronger/Lira gets weaker - the prices go up in Kalkan to suit!  This isn't what is supposed to happen, the buying power is supposed to change in favour of GBP.

Could it be because the alternative economy in Kalkan is GBP?

That's why we have an Efes Fund and a Bag Fund, BL ;D ;D Have to say the bag fund is slightly bigger than the Efes Fund - but only just ;)

The rate has now dropped slightly to 3.7/3.8 here....how's it doing in Kalkan?
Also, whilst on the subject of exchange, BH went to the bank to collect our sterling and was told they were short of £20 notes so gave us our holiday money in mostly £50 notes. Has anyone ever had trouble exchanging these in town - or in particular the Is Bank ATM exchange.

£50 notes are not a problem. I had never had one - never even seen one until I started using the HSBC atm in Kalkan. £50s are all it seams to dispense.

No problem changing £50 notes in town, actually shop keepers love them but the ATM at Is Bank didn't!  Actually it didn't like our £10 notes either. On,y took £20s.
