Bank transfer for deposit
« on: February 08, 2010, 10:08:49 AM »
We have recently booked our hotel in Kalkan, and agreed to pay the deposit to the hotel by bank transfer.  We transferred £300 plus the bank charged us £20 admin fee.  However, the hotel have said they have only received £265.  Even given the exchange rate this can't be right can it?  Has anyone else had this experience? ???

The bank fee you were quoted was probably from your UK bank - but the Turkish bank will take a fee as well.

Try using one of the specialist money brokers like Moneycorp - that way you pay a flat fee and don't pay any bank charges, plus you get a better exchange rate anyway.

It's possible that the bank transferred 300 euros and not 300 pounds.

I just received a sterling deposit into my sterling account in Isbank.  No fee was taken by Isbank to receive this money.

YapiKredi seems to have changed their policy on an intermediate Turkish bank charging for administering a transfer.  Last week, I transferred sterling from my UK Halifax Bank by internet to my sterling account here and was charged only £9 by Halifax and YapiKredi charged nothing.  A great improvement on previous years, when combined charges could amount to as much as £60.
