Going via Norway seems ridiculous to avoid France!  Especially if you consider how tight airlines are regarding fuel prices/weight of aircraft!

Whatever, it's intriguing.

Can you PM me with the flight number and date, so I can investigate?

While you are at it, perhaps you could work out the flight time for trips after 29th Mar 2019, just in case May completely messes up the Brexit deal.

Oh and never assume anything - we left the ferrets at home so maybe that gives a clue we didn’t fly from LGW!

I didn't even know Gatwick lets you bring your ferret along.

Chris_S, I have a video of some paint drying, happy to send it to you if you have time on your hands  ;D ;D :-*
Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt :)

Thursday 17th May 2018

Gosh it was hard working out what day it is today, never mind the date. I know exactly what Shirl means. It's fab when you're not ruled by the clock and can spend long lazy days doing whatever takes your fancy.

The highlight of Tuesday was definitely the black and gold northern soul/Motown night. In Kalkan and perhaps Turkey in general, things ain't always what they are described to be and this was a good example. I'd been practicing my Wigan casino moves in preparation to the strains of "jimmy Mack" but I needn't have bothered as the northern soul reference was stretching the trades discrimination act really.
Turns out that Christine the singer was from Preston and belted out soul music but she did it well and what a fab night we had. At one stage I was bumping and grinding with the rose man with a rose firmly clamped between my teeth and showing him how to do the bump among other moves.  ::) just glad my girls aren't here to spoil my fun as they definitely wouldn't have approved.  ;D
Aoutoman and Bob looked on helplessly as Shirl and I gyrated and threw a few shapes. I actually had to restrain Shirl from crushing Christine at one point as she was enthusiastically twirling in her path.  ;D apparently Motown nights are every Tuesday, 25 tl for your ticket with a free G&T thrown in. Be there or be square.

Previous to our shenanigans we ate at begonvil restaurants for the first time ever and it was a lovely experience. Food was delicious and very good quality and at a very resonable price too.

Yesterday was another red hot scorcher of a day. We spent a lovely lunch (nursing our hangovers) at fener as Shirl has described. Delicious salads and lots of water for us guys and we perked up nicely. I had a bit of a run in with the rather pushy greeter from linekers bar who tries to entice you marmaris style, into his establishment. I managed to get a paper fan off him which came in handy though.

We eagerly awaited the arrival of our friends from home who are here to help with Automan's big birthday celebrations and who are staying at the oasis. We met them on their roof terrace at happy hour and off we ambled down to moonlight for pre dinner drinks then onto the Marina restaurant for the most delicious meal and lots of hugs with Mario, George and davut. We finished our evening off with a drink at kleo under the twinkling stars and again listening to the lap of the sea.

Can life get any better?

Oh don't you just love it when it doesn't matter what day of the week it is? Wish we were there too :(
The roof terrace at Oasis has a fab view, well to be fair loads of places have a fab view - that's the beauty of Kalkan.
So a lass from up north is belting out tunes so its Northern Soul..? ;D ;D If you had a good time, that's all that matters - we should be asking the Rose Man if he can now do the Bump?
Your stay sounds idyllic and looking forward to hearing all about the birthday celebrations next week...
A little over three weeks and we'll be there too....just sayin!

Response Time:

alanj: I can do retrospective, but my crystal ball needs cleaning (and has a crack) so I can't predict airlines (who invent their own rules, anyway).  In any case Brexit won't affect anything regarding flights - every other country (almost) seems to fly to and over the EU without issue, so why would it change for the UK after Brexit? (Ignore the posturing, that's all it is - they don't want to give an easy ride because they are afraid Spain, Portugal, Italy, Greece and others will leave.)  Anyway, all this conflates the insidious ways the EU infiltrates things that have nothing to do with them, and you don't realise until you try to leave; a sort of Hotel California thing.

kalkan4eva: I prefer watching grass grow, though only with an approved and appropriate beverage to hand.

I don't have that much time on my hands - I'm retired and wonder how I ever found time to work, but I am what a columnist in Flight once called a 'Totally Aviation Person'.  So I therefore get interested in the what, why's and where's of aviation related things.  I DO NOT collect registration (tail) numbers, nor do I stand around airfields just watching to see what flies in and out - give me some credit!

I am, however, an occasional member of the SLCC (Self Loading Cargo Club), otherwise known as an airline passenger, with some light aircraft piloting experience, not that this has much relevance to Dalaman-related flights.

108 days and we shall then subject ourselves to QeasyJet's ministrations to Dalaman for our sins!

Saturday 19th May 2018 - Royal wedding day

Firstly thank you for for all your responses, I'm just sorry that time seems to be running away with me. Can you believe we've been here a week today?  :o

Thursday was Asfiya day. We introduced our friends, hereafter known as the Knobbers ( we frequent a pub at home called 'the polished knob' and refer to ourselves collectively as the above) to the beautiful Asfiya and they were suitably impressed with the facilities, notably the princess and the pea style mattresses and were soon settling down into Kalkan life, lounging, quaffing and snoozing.

We were at the bar, casually swinging around and getting dizzy on the swiveling bar chairs, when the bar man looked at Bob and Automan (who were wearing the same shorts) and said "are you two brothers?" "No he's my Dad" was the quick response from Automan  ;D so Bob became Baba for the day. We found it hilarious but I'm not sure Baba, sorry Bob was impressed.  ;D
Normally the pool there is like a hot bath, being quite shallow, but it was a little bit nippy at first. We got talking to a chap who has a restaurant in London whose son is a Michelin starred chef and he was telling us that he was amazed at the quality of the restaurants here, notably the steaks, of course we already knew that didn't we.  :)

Thursday night we introduced the Knobbers to the moonlight bar and apparently we were spotted on the webcam, (hope you weren't counting my vodkas) more tables and chairs are now emerging and Kalkan is getting more and more into summer mode.
We dined at Belgin's kitchen for the first time ever. Wow! Why have we never been to that little gem before? The owner said that they have been there for 26 years and have not changed anything since then, retaining the traditional charm of Turkish village life and cooking. Highly recommended, the food was plentiful and mouthwateringly delicious. We dined on the very top terrace where there are a handful of tables and chairs, rather than the ottoman style seating which is not suitable for my arthritic pins.
The evening concluded with a nightcap or 2 at Shade lounge, Greek street coming to life and very busy to say that Kalkan is still a little quiet.

Yesterday was spent bobbing along the ocean waves on Whisper boat. The sea was like a millpond, not even a bumpy ride by mouse and snake, but the sea was bracing to,say the least.
Oh what a brilliant day. Whisper is only small and narrow, not good if you're a bit wide like me but at least it helped with my posture as I sucked my tummy in when circumnavigating the decked areas, but it was a lovely smooth ride and Captain Yasin and his lovely mum were fantastic hosts. Dare I say that the food was the best we've had on a boat so far?  :o that's a very hard thing to say knowing the high standard of the other boats but I really think it beat them by a whisker. He is also a joker and we spent the day, chuckling, quaffing and snoozing as you do. He only takes private hire, but if you can get together with some friends it's definitely worth the treat.

Our evening was spent at gourmet last night, letting those delicious chickens out. We wouldn't normally eat a big fat meal after a boat trip but the Knobbers are only here for a week and want to experience as much as they can, so it had to be done. I'm so not looking forward to those scales when we get home.
After an extravagant and elaborate cocktail at black and gold, we called it a night as its a big day today and I have tiaras at the ready for us ladies. Shirl, make sure your hair is suitably coiffured to sport a sparkly plastic adornment as we regally make our way to Aubergine later for the celebrations.

Lovely lovely report thankyou. Daisy always calls Brian Dad and we always get a few funny looks particularly when Brian refers to Daise as my son.

Monday 21st May 2018

Started out a bit dull and drizzly this morning so what better to do than go for a mooch and a pedicure at Jasmine Coiffure. It's literally around the corner and the best 50TL I've ever spent. She tenderly plonked me down then proceeded to de slough my calloused tootsies to within an inch of their life. I was there for approx an hour as she grated, clipped, exfoliated, massaged and tickled my feet and calves. Then applied a couple of coats of glossy varnish. At one point we were both in fits of laughter as the unintentional tickling with the industrial sander reached an almost unbearable crescendo and she had to restrain me from wriggling out of the chair. Highly recommended and I'm now walking on air with feet a newborn would be proud of.

Anyway enough of today, let's get back to Saturday and the Royal wedding. We had booked into Aubergine with Shirl, Bob and the Knobbers. We had the best table, right in front of the massive screen. We were so close we could almost see up HRH Prince Charles' hooter. It was a brilliant afternoon, we had a delicious lunch, sporting our Tiaras for the ladies and face masks for the boys. If you are on social media, check us out on Aubergines Facebook photos of the day. It was quite emotional at times and Shirl was so overcome at one point, I had to physically restrain her as she jumped up masking everyone's view behind us and started clapping blowing kisses to Prince Harry! I'm not sure who was the most emotional and enthusiastic, Shirl or the Rev. Michael Curry! Oh we did laugh throughout the afternoon.
All that emotion drained us and we had to have a siesta before venturing out again for the evening.
We were still stuffed from our lunch so decided to while away the evening at fener cafe, nibbling mezze and sipping wine, totally relaxed and chilled, just watching the world go by.
After a weary walk home we were greeted by the young teenage maintenance lad who startled us as he sported a miracle mud pack on his face. It was so funny, he tried not to laugh though  as he didn't want to crack it. "Problem skin" he said, bless him. Automan had to stop me asking if I could have some as my usual menopausal acne has reared its ugly head too.

Yesterday was another fab fun in the sun day. We were all going to meet up for lunch and a lounge at the Regency but it was extremely busy so the contingency plan was put In place instead.
We trekked up the Kalamar road and collapsed in Aqua, wine gourmet burgers and salads did the trick and revived us. We've never eaten there before, just had drinks, but it was delicious and we will definitely return. Very high standard of food and service and so quirky with the little fiat next to it, almost full of empty spirit and wine bottles. We certainly added to the pile yesterday!
On our way home we passed by the Elixir Hotel and asked for a look round. Of course no problem and away we went. Firstly we had a tour of the hammam, oh my word it's fabulous, I can just imagine it was like stepping back in time to ottoman days. It's been lovingly furnished and restored and had some good packages for Turkish baths, massages and spa treatments.
We then made our way upstairs and into the hotel. We were shown the rooms and I cannot begin to tel you just how beautiful it is. It's very traditional with a modern and elegant twist. Highly polished and varnished wood being the theme, with mosaic end bathtubs on the balconies in some rooms.
We them made our way to the pool area and were blown away with the curtained wooden cabanas. We cheekily asked if we could stay for the rest of the afternoon and  guess what? Of course, no problem!
We were completely spoiled. We were laid in the cabanas, waited on hand and foot with greengages on ice and pretzels to nibble on and unlimited GnT's.
If your knees are a bit dicky, they are a bit tricky to get on and off and I tried a variety of positions. At one point the waiter in a horrified voice shouted "no diving lady" as he thought I was about to launch myself like Tom Daly into a mere foot of water. I wasn't, I was only trying to inch myself not very gracefully down on the mattress. Oh how we laughed.

Last evening was spent at the Olive Garden restaurant. It's been massively refurbished and looks absolutely amazing. You still get the freebie mezze to start and the ice cream, lemon drizzle cake and dough balls with chocolate sauce for afters so if you're not very hungry, just order a main course as we did.
It was as delicious as ever and very highly recommended. We've had such wonderful meals, my clothes are definitely straining a the seams. I've even just had to buy 2 floaty dresses from Mai boutique to accommodate my swollen belly!

On that note, I'll wrap up for the day as my club sandwich, chips and bottle of wine has been set down in front of me.
There's no hope for me is there?

So lovely that you enjoyed Aqua. That's where I'm going for my 70th. The food is lovely and Yusuf and his team always make you feel welcome. I think it's one of Kalkan gems.

Well this is what I like to read on your holiday report thread, Lizilu...news about your wonderful holiday! I don't want to be distracted by plane spotting talk, I want to read about food, drinks and visits to beautiful places...you have delivered that to us in shed loads.
I had 2 reports to catch up on - lucky me - and they didn't disappoint! So glad you had a lovely time on your boat trip - sounds amazing and it always gets lots of recommendation on social media so its good to know it lives up to the hype!
I bet you had a great time in Aubergine watching the wedding - how fantastic! I laughed out loud at the pool boy with his face mask...how funny! Never been to Elixir Hotel, sounds wonderful!
Looking forward to hearing more about your stay when you have time.

I couldn't agree more K4E.....I love reading about other peoples holidays, especially when it is as wittily written as Lizilu's. I feel like I'm currently getting it in stereo as my elder daughter is in Kalkan at the moment and if I wasn't going to be there myself in four weeks I'd Ben driven wild with jealousy!!
You're not just painting the town red lizilu......you're going for a nice deep crimson.....keep it up!
