Abroad Thoughts from Home (sorry Mr Bryson)
« on: October 28, 2012, 07:04:15 PM »
One of the best things about keeping a Daily Diary on holiday is that you get to relive it on these darker nights.

This was such a funny day in June this year, Day 2 of our 17 day holiday, from memory.  The daft thing was, we never quite got around to eating all of the fish I had worked so hard to fetch. But the trip on Mehmets bike was priceless.

"Mehmet came soon after 11am, and just as I thought I would hop in the front seat and shoot up that great big hill, to the Akbel Market, there he was, on his motorbike. I hopped on the back, tangling my sandals up with the exhaust pipe. So glad I had my extra loose CK's on, as we hit the potholes up towards the g. After 2 or 3 minutes, I almost began to enjoy the experience, were it not for the grinding of my teeth and clenching of my butt cheeks. We passed the odd car smashed into a tree - on a straight road - and far down beneath us, we could see the whole of Kalkan Bay slipping into the distance. I wanted to get off the world. We arrived in the square at Akbel, and I would have hopped off and lept for an apple tea, were it not for the cement sticking my groin to the plastic seat of Mehmet's bike. The fishman was so patient and coped with my ignorance and lack of Turkish. I did the best I could, trying not to shout or raise my arms, in true Benidorm style, settling for 6 Sea Bream - and one sprat, that took the bill from TL39 to TL40.While the fish were being cleaned, Mehmet and I had an apple tea, in the village square under a tree. Such a luxurious way to spend a lire for 2. He had a fag, I had a heart tremor thinking of the journey back down.Mehmet hung the fish on the bike, and I hung my body on the back of his and prayed for forgiveness as we fell off the edge of the world, catching my heart in my throat as we crossed the D400. I thought we might land at the Indigo Beach Club, had it not been for two enormous pot holes, high above Yali, just south of Mars.I shook Mehmet's hand hard (I think?) and my knees shook harder as I took my catch into the kitchen at Vila Krimizi Lale and fell onto the sofa.A tin of tuna would be fine for lunch?"

Happy memories,

Steve

I laughed out loud when I first read this and did so again...just. Thanks for reminding us of your funny adventure on the back of Mehmet's bike :)
Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt :)

Lovely to see these types of posts, reminds me what EJK is all about and why I joined up so to speak. i am guilty of not contributing enough to holiday reports etc, I must change my ways, keep promising to send holiday reports and never get round to doing it, new years resolution beckons

Thank you, all of you. The next re-installment will be called: "I should have listened to the Kalkan butcher". (Remember the one that told me I was overweight, as he trimmed my whole fillet....?)

Sadly, he was spot on....

Coming soon.....!

Well, the villa we will be staying in has had the refurb:

http://www.ownersdirect.co.uk/turkeyb/TK3488.htm

Looks bright and cheerful - but cannot see reference to the Mini Chopper? Will have to take my own.

Anyway, it has 5 bathrooms - and an iPod docking station. What more could you want?

Maybe somewhere to prepare wet fish, fetched from Akbel Market - on a moped?

Bring it on.......

Dead right, K4E!
Doesn't it look gorgeous. I think the first holidaymakers are in there now. BUT:
At the moment it is vacant in June while you are there. What I shame! We should be there as well.
Hope you get chance to have a look and report back? Or maybe even better if I we can get you inside....!
Anyway, really looking forward to your holiday.....almost as much as you.
