rate increase for Trip Advisor

An obscene 25% increase on last year's fee to advertise on Holiday Lettings/Trip Advisor with an annual listing!!  Plus a 3% + VAT fee if the guest pays via them.  I know I could go to the free listing but then 8% - 15% is added to the guest's price.  With just 3 weeks booked through them I think I need to get a calculator out and check  whether £600 fee for another year is worth it.

Anne, it is fairly well known that annual subscriptions go to the bottom of the search results unless you agree to use their online payment system.  So check carefully before you decide.

I've had my apartment in TA for almost a year now and never had an enquiry! Don't think I'll bother renewing.

Not only are TA increasing their rates, but Owners Direct/Homeaway have now changed their terms and conditions so that unless the guest books and pays through them, the owner is not able to have direct contact with the guest.  Any attempt at direct contact is blocked by the OD web site. So now, even if you as the property owner pay an anual fee to OD, you cannot handle the booking and payment yourself.  OD/homeaway also sting the guest for commission and they hold on to the guest's money as long as they can before they pay the owner!! And if you try to circumvent their system they send extremely threatening emails to you.  However, between them and tripadvisor, they now have the market sown up, so they can do whatever they want. I'm sure I'm not the only one to ask this, but if only there was a viable alternative to these greedy multi nationals - any ideas anyone??

An obvious one is to offer a discount for bookings made via enjoykalkan.

Eg. we offer a free transfer with all bookings made directly with us, you can view details of our villa and then book via a PM on here.
