Ad-hoc cleaner during the winter months
« on: October 19, 2008, 04:14:24 PM »
Hi everyone

Like a lot of the owners who frequent this site, we pay the maintenance and cleaning bills for our apartment(s) annually - and I have to say we are generally pretty satisfied with the service we get.  However, the cleaning part of the service only extends to the six-month main season (May to October). This has never been a problem for us, so far, as we haven''t been thinking of letting the apartment during the winter!

Now, however, we are starting to get more enquiries for winter lets, which is obviously good news on the one hand, but it does mean we need to organise cleaning etc during the winter months. Our regular summer cleaner may or may not be available during the winter and I wonder if anyone can recommend a cleaner who would come in on an ad-hoc basis when we have people staying?

Obviously, we expect to be charging less for winter lets than summer lets - and therefore the price we pay for a cleaner needs to be cost-effective!! Especially as the electricity costs are going to be higher (less reliance on solar power, for example). Someone has quoted 30 YTL per day for a cleaner but I think that''s just too expensive as we would be left with virtually no profit.

Any advice/comments/recommendations greatly appreciated!

Thanks,  Martyn

Surely 30YTL is not excessive - that is £11 for a days work - when you conside they have to get there and back as well - would you clean a villa for that?

I am sure Martyn would clean his apartment for free, if he was in Kalkan to do it.

Hi
I would jump at 30YTL for a cleaner summer or winter!

Kevincat, I take your point and if I were referring to a full-day clean of a villa, I would probably agree.

However, what we have is just a one-bed apartment. When we are there it takes one of us about an hour to do a full clean, including changing all the linen etc. That is all we require, and 30YTL per hour is nearly double what we pay our cleaner in the UK - and more than Fiona earns, come to that!

And yes, Joan, if we were there we would certainly do it ourselves! I wish we could afford to retire right now and live in Kalkan; rather that than the stressful, pressurised, credit-crunched lives we lead in the UK....  ;) Unfortunately, that prospect is receding with every stockmarket  crash... but that''s another story.

Sounds a bit flash, doesn''t it?

But we both work full time, five or six days a week, and if we didn''t have a cleaner for a few hours a week, we''d never have any spare time.

And that wouldn''t be fair on the the butler, or the chauffeur, or the groom and stablemaid, would it?

I never thought I would have the chance to boast of having a pool man.  Slightly mischievously, I also have a small dishwasher.......

I dont think anyone needs a excuse for having a cleaner, you either want one or you dont,I work five days a week and my wife most weeks works six days a week,we dont feel we need a cleaner so we dont have
one.
my wife is the chauffer and I am the kennel hand and chef.  ;D >:D ::)

Anyway, back to the point of the thread...  ;)

Anyone know any good, reliable cleaners that might be prepared to work by the hour, rather than by the day, during the winter?

Of course, he''s the one who organises our regular maintenance and cleaning during the summer.

But he only employs a full-time cleaner and while we do want to offer winter guests a cleaning service, of sorts, for the money we are charging we can''t afford to provide the daily clean that we provide in the summer. He would have to get his cleaner in specially to do ours, because she would not be on site like she is in the summer, and so we would be charged for her daily rate - which is just too much, as it only takes (less than) an hour to do.

Hope that explains it.

Was told by the young lad in Kaya that to save money he had suggested to his wife that she learned to cook, so that he could sack the chef.  She had retorted that if he learned to make love, he could sack the gardener and the chauffeur!    Sorry!!!

It''s nice to see some light-hearted banter on here, and the return of some regulars, but try and keep on the topic.

30 YTL / day is the price for a day''s cleaning in about 2004.  A full day cleaner now gets from YTL 40 (rare!) up to YTL 75/day.  YTL 50-60 is probably the norm.  That means more or less from 9am - 3:30 or up to 5pm.

I know. That''s the point - we don''t need a cleaner for a day, just for an hour at a time!!!!
