What do you bring home from Kalkan?
« on: July 09, 2007, 10:50:30 PM »

There was a topic on here asking what do you take to Kalkan .So lets turn it round and find out what people bring back.
A few years ago we lugged some huge saddle bag rugs home, they never looked right back in the UK so we then lugged them back to Kalkan where they look more at home!!
For me its usually a smart Turkish hair cut from Eddie in cabin by the PTT.
Mrs Teke comes back with lots of Vassila and Brako stuff!!

Apart from the normal t-shirts and shirts bought from the market, we fetch back a couple of bags of Kent Assorted sweets. Just a coincidence that we live in Kent. Last year I also spotted in the supermarket small plastic sachets of gerkins. Wanted to fetch some home this year as they're great in a salad but couldn't find them. Apart from that and a great haircut, a lovely suntan and a really chilled out feeling, we don't fetch anything back. 8)

Having taken out loaded suitcases, we come back with empty ones which we try to stop rattling with a few olives and spices for the relatives . Oh and of course gloomy faces & thoughts of the next trip.

500 or so photographs! These get worked upon and on our next trip out will be given to Maggi to sell to feed the cats - oh and loads of spices and clothes from Maggis and towels from the market. ;D

Littlelin - go to the market on Thursdays, and up beside the veggie sellers is Emin, who sells cheese, olives, honey etc. He sells pickled gherkins loose.
You can buy what you need and take them home in a plastic bag or box.

I always bring back a lovely piece of jewellery made by the lady who runs the shop on the street down from Coast restaurant.
She puts on the aircon as you walk in and i spend the fortnight choosing the right piece!  ;D

Oh...and two litres of Gin! ;)

Half empty cases and the resolution just to take hand luggage next time, (I always find things I just have to bring back to Turkey) and several pieces of jewellery and boxes of Turkish Delight for colleagues.

Bottles of Angora, Turkish delight and nuts from the market, tablecloths and posh napkins from the shop at the top of the road by Coast rstaurant...tacky evil eyes (which look good on the garden wall!) and key rings...lots of photos and memories...and always a desperate longing to go back soon! :)

Not been yet - but do usually bring home from Turkey, the  biscuits with the chocolate nutella type filling in them.  The kids love them and bring packets back to take to their friends.
Currently have a duplex apartment in Kiziltas which we visit as often as we can.
