Travelling alone!

Hi all!

Looking for some advice, planning to fly out late August for a week surprising my mum and sister who will be out there at the time. Planning on crossing over for a few days with them and then spending the rest of the week there on my own. Anyone one else been to Kalkan alone before and can offer some advice? Where's going to be the best place to stay? Prices are looking like the Samira Resort Hotel would be my best bet... Also has anyone used the shuttle transfer with Transfers4U as they look like they could be my best bet at about £30 return!

SarahS, welcome to the forum.
The Samira Exclusive may be better if you are travelling alone as opposed the Samira Resort. SE is right in the centre - everything within walking distance and SR is further out over the D400 - not a bad walk in, but a fairly arduous one out (plus not one I would do of an evening on my own...) Please don't get me wrong Kalkan is very safe for solo female travellers, I know a good few who have stayed on their own and have absolutely no problems but they have all stayed very close to the old town, if not in it. If you plan to stay at Samira Resort, I would also budget for taxis in and out.

Try seeing if the Meldi Hotel has any space. (http://www.meldihotel.com/)

There's not much to dislike and it's a safe walk down Nilufer Sokak towards the town.

It's not expensive, but the service and friendliness makes up for anything you may feel is less than 5-star!  As a single occupant, you won't feel too put out either!

Hi Sarah,

I'm a single girl (of a certain age !) & have been visiting Kalkan solo for over a decade.  Stayed various places & I now choose purely on convenience (of distance) & company, so hotels rather than privacy of an apartment.  Can highly recommend Meldi from personal experience, but also Dionysius opposite Korsan apartments just a little closer to town on the same road.  Went there by chance a few years ago & they had contract with one of the solo travel companies so you should have company.  If you're watching the budget costs less than Meldi.

Would definitely recommend the Meldi for a single female traveller.  You will be made to feel very at home from both the staff and the guests and you wont ever feel a Nobby No Mates!!

The Meldi will arrange transport from/to airport free  for  bookings over a week.

Don't think you'd be disappointed in the Meldi - especially for the price!

It's not the Lykia, but the guys there can't do too much for you, the bar is a strong social focus most of the time (except when everybody's stuffing themselves in town!), Breakfast (included) is a major social event, and Halil at reception will book restaurants and such things for you.  Having said that, the restaurant in the Meldi is very good, especially the steaks, and should not be ignored, at least once.

The pool is a turn up and turn off area, you'll soon learn which part suits you, but people do get very habitual about where they occupy, just like everywhere else.  In recent years, there will be a pool towel in the room, plus slippers and a Meldi Cap!

Most of all, as a single traveller, you will be looked after and feel safe!

Totally agree with everything Chris said. We have been going there for some years and   quite a few single travellers staying. All f them made welcome and not left out. I am sure  you will enjoy it there. There have been a few changes this winter and  now have wet rooms instead of shower cubicles. The pool area has been re-tiled.

We have decided to have a change this year and try self catering but hopefully will still pop in to see the boys.

Meldi is a nice place.I recommend there.The staff is really good.If you book from there they arrange free transfer.
