Shopping and turkish
« on: September 23, 2009, 11:06:20 AM »
Hi.
We are off to Kalkan in only a few days now - getting really excited.
I have used this website almost daily since we booked and have compiled lists of places to eat and things to do following advice from members.
Just a couple of quick last minute questions -

We are staying in a villa a bit up fron the Mediteran - which is the nearest supermarket to stock up on essentials?
Is it easy enough to find?

Secondly, we have been learning the odd turkish word - hello, good bye please etc - Definately not enough to translate Turkish menus!!!  Do most restaurants have menus in English and do the staff speak English? Do I need a phrase book?!!

Thanks in advance for any help.

English is widely spoken and the menus are by and large printed in English too (with some curious translations sometimes).  While you do not need to be able to speak Turkish any effort to do so is always greeted with much appreciation so keep expanding your vocabulary and have a wonderful time!

We have 5 days left in Kalkan and I'm not looking forward to going home.  Last night we had a fantastic night in the Ottoman Bar. Drinks at the bar before ascending to the terrace for a wonderful meal followed by more drinks relaxing on the cushions with a water pipe.  I have found all locals to be very polite and courteous.
