Schweppes Tonic
« on: October 09, 2008, 02:13:54 PM »
This is a very serious question - where has all the tonic water in Turkey gone?
Last week I travelled from Icmeler - Marmaris - Goecek - Fethiye - Kas and arrived home in kalkan and there was not a bottle to be had
Has any member stock piled it or even worse drunk it all ?
It''s not me - so where is it
This is even worse than the Credit Crunch and Banking Crisis combined  :(

I''ve got three bottles in my fridge. I''ll sell one to the highest bidder.

Can you still buy the soda stream things,if so you could have it out in kalkan and either take out a supply of the mix/gas,or ask people coming out to bring supplies, and have tonic on tap !
EFES TIME AGAIN !

That''s a possible longer term solution - but I need it NOW !!!!!

And why isn''t there any anywhere - we need to get to the root of this problem

Somebody suggested sometime that it was because of Ramadam...although why there should have been a run on tonic is anybody''s guess...maybe the turks needed to quench their thirst with tonic water at the end of Ramadam...??

As you say - worse than credit crunch and financial crisis combined..

Oh well - there has to be some downsides to living in Kalkan - there''s PLENTY of tonic water here in Blighty..!!   ;D ;D ;D

Not in my local Asda!  :(
Went in there yesterday to find the Schweppes tonic shelf empty..even of half fat tonic water (yuck), all that was left was some dodgy looking pink stuff...think its tonic flavoured with cranberry or some such nonsense.  ::)

Must admit to getting through a heeeuuuge number of bottles of Schweppes tonic when in Kalakn in Sept this year, though!  :-[

Hi Mrs B, the pink stuff is "Ruschian"...it''s spelt something like that rather than Russian, so don''t pick me up on the spelling you grammar freaks out there...If you''re a vodka drinker, it''s the perfect mixer - Vodka Ruschians are quite delicious for a change every now and then.. ;)

Worryingly, schweppes is owned by cadburys, so if there''s a world-wide shortage of schweppes tonic will we soon be faced with fights in the supermarket aisles for the last bar of Dairy Milk :o :o

Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt :)

We found tonic water at Cafe Vita on the Kalamar Road on Monday.  They had plenty at the time but may have had a run on it since.

Oh, Kalkan4eva, you''re starting to worry me now!
I feel a supermarket sweep is needed to stock up on supplies before we have a cadbury ''ration'' situation (a bit like the bread strikes of 1970 something...yes, i remember being dragged around from bakers to bakers by my mum, stocking up on whatever was available!!! ::))

As for that pink stuff...sounds interesting enough for the voddy, but i won''t be putting it in me Bombay Sapphire, no thank you!  ;)

ooooh no...it''s definitely not for gin, Mrs B...that would actually taste quite nasty (and an awful waste of good Bombay  :P )

The bread strikes...there''s a blast from the past. My mother took to making her own...which in the days before electric breadmakers, instant yeast and bread flour was pretty disgusting - even with half a pound of anchor butter to disguise the taste. The cries of "Don''t go in the airing cupboard.." still haunt me today..the fear of disturbing the yeast rising process has scarred me for life

Only one question...how on earth can we make our own bar of Cadbury''s fruit and nut if the worse comes to the worst ??? ???

...dashing off to Tesco''s to stock up as we speak
