Getting ready to come out and very excited! so can anyone advise please what exchange rate we are being offered locally at present?

Shop around - but I have seen a spread of 2:09 - 2:30 locally (GBP > YTL)

anything above 2.40 TL / Ãƒâ€šÃ‚Â£ in the UK take it - but as ever it always seems better here in Turkey

I used the post office online last time I got foreign currency, and looking at the comparison they are pretty good for turkey at the moment offering 2.278 - although you do have to order at least Ãƒâ€šÃ‚Â£350 worth online and you can pick up for free at a local post office (otherwise its Ãƒâ€šÃ‚Â£5 delivery for orders under 500 and free above 500)

I find M&S to be pretty good, they do not charge commission and no need to order.

Today the rate was 2.23. I normally only buy Ãƒâ€šÃ‚Â£100 to see us for the first day or so and then change the rest in Kalkan where the rate is normally better.

If you want to change a few pounds into Turkish lira before you go apparently Eurochange are the best for rates and changing at the airport is the worst - according to Which? The difference between the best and worst was actually Ãƒâ€šÃ‚Â£35

I find it a very useful site. I will be ordering my money from travelex and picking it up at the airport (Birmingham) it works out cheaper because there is no delivery fee and I don''t live in London. My quandry is whether I should buy today because of the MEP and local elections tomorrow. Might the results have a knock on effect on the rate of the pound

Tonik - just be aware that when you order from Travelex you have to pay by credit/debit card and then your bank may sting you for extra charges. You can''t pay cash for some reason. This happened to me several years ago so then it doesn''t turn out to be such a good deal. Always better to change GBP to TL in Kalkan.

Hi. I feel more secure if I have some currency so have used travelex and my Nationwide card and there are no extra charges. Travelex have a notice that they don''t charge uk debit. I got 250 lira for Ãƒâ€šÃ‚Â£103.80. That doesn''t seem too bad=does it?
