Mobile phones in turkey
« on: May 02, 2012, 01:59:46 PM »
Hi,

Can anyone tell me if you phone a UK landline from a mobile in turkey does the landline get charged the same as a mobile would?

My server is T Mobile and they charged  £1.50 for caller and receiver but have no idea if that applies to landline phones.

I do not usually phone whilst  away but this year we may have to due to illness in the family and I would hate for them to pick the bill up beause I phoned them.

I would normally do that but I just wanted to know if the charge was the same  for a landline as a mobile when  coming from Kalkan.

I have had a few calls from abroad to my landline phone but never thought about if I was getting charged or not.

I often phone a landlıne ın the UK from the post office in Kalkan. The cost for a 20 minute chat in the mornıngs is usually about 2-3 lira.No charge is made to the UK phone bill.I was told that calls are cheaper in the mornings but not sure if that is true.

Thanks Amber but it is the mobile call to a UK landline I wanted to know gets charged or not.

Going back to the post office, how much then would a call from there be to a mobile phone number in the UK?

Hi, normally -
if a UK mobile abroad calls a uk landline, the mobile is charged for the call. The landline is not charged.
The call is an international call.

If a UK landline calls a UK mobile which is abroad, the landline is charged normal rates for the call as if the mobile was in the UK, the mobile is charged for the international (roaming) part of the call - as i understand it.

This is also my understanding, it's only 'roaming' phones that get charged for receiving calls.

The UK landline would not be charged anything at all if you phone from a T-mobile cell phone in Turkey. Just the same as in UK.

Why not buy a cheap Turkish mobile and PAYG SIM card? That way for 20TL (£6) you can phone the UK landline for around 10+ mins, and you don't have to use it all at once. (Mobiles are cheaper to buy in Fethiye, about 50% less.)
There - over there, there are.            To - Going to
Their - belongs to them.                     Too - In addition, Also
They're - Short for they are.

Thanks everyone...as I am partially sighted normal mobile phones are no good to me as I just cannot see the screens etc.. I have one which has larger numbers and which has  memory buttons which I just have to press,,very similar to my house phone,

I was just curious on  landline prices as I  do not phone mobile numbers normally unless they are on my memory!!!!...my husband has to do any other numbers so that is why I never text etc.,

A few years ago when we was in Icmeler my mother in law died sidden;y. We had no phone numbers on us at the time and ended up with a bill of £100 for the hotel phone...we got a phone card the next year and now take a list of phone numbers in case of emergency!

Just a point for info. My husband called me (to landline UK) from the Phone shop on  the Kalamar Road, by the roundabout, two weeks ago. They charged him 1 tl per minute!! Thay have obvoiously put the tariff up for the tourist season, as it was nothing like that, last November!  Needless to say he bought a phone card after that and phoned from the Post Office phones.
