Dear Everyone

Happy New Year to you all. I thought I would take this opportunity to fill you in on recent events concerning Kapsa.

In our last EK update on December 6th, we explained that the Mayor, having originally promised to pay for all neutering and treatment costs incurred by Kapsa this winter, had then informed us that due to budgetary restrictions any payment would have to be postponed until January 2009, and that the available would be limited. This left KAPSA in a very difficult situation as many operations had already been carried out based on the Mayor’s original promise of financial support. After numerous meetings with the Mayor a compromise was agreed this week. All veterinary costs incurred up to the end of December 2008 will be paid for by the Belediye. However, they cannot offer any further financial support in the foreseeable future.
This has meant that we have had to reduce our winter feeding programme in order to carry on neutering the cats and dogs. We have also had to prioritise here too and concentrate on dogs of any gender but limit operations on cats to females only.

We have also had discussions with the Mayor concerning 3 owned dogs that have bitten people but whose owners continue to allow them to roam the streets. A number of complaints have been made about these particular dogs both by members of the public and KAPSA. As an organisation, we are not in a position to be able to remove these dogs from the streets, only the Belediye has that power by law. If anyone is unfortunate enough to be bitten by a dog they need to report the incident in writing to the Belediye as soon as possible. Should they need any help with this there are always people in Kapsa willing to help.

KAPSA continues to try to improve the health and well being of the street animals not only for their benefit, but for the benefit of the community as a whole. We do, and will continue where possible, to take action on street dogs that pose a threat to people or other animals, and also reduce the numbers of unwanted dogs and cats  through our neutering and re-homing programmes. This winter we have neutered approximately 90 animals and a number of street dogs and cats have been successfully homed too. We continue to try to find homes for as many cats and dogs as possible. If anyone can offer help please contact us.

Following the success of our end of season Coffee morning we are planning to have another one in the spring. So hold on to all those unwanted Christmas presents and books you have read this winter as all will go down a treat at the bring and buy!

Finally, just as a reminder, the UK bank account is open and fully functional but sadly is still lacking funds.  For anyone wishing to make a donation, the details are:

Bank:  Lloyds TSB, Pride Hill Branch, Shrewsbury PO Box 1000, BX1 1LT
Account Name:  KAPSA
Sort Code:  30-97-62
Account Number: 00259909

Many thanks to all those who have given us their support in the past, and let’s continue to work together to make a difference in 2009.
