Is Kalkan like Marmaris?
« on: May 11, 2010, 07:11:21 AM »
People may be interested that Kalkan [ according to the Telegraph ] has moved from being a "formerly  picturesque fishing village " into "a sprawling report such as Marmaris"
Is this how kalkan is now perceived maybe??

Kalkan, in my opinion, has evolved from a little fishing village to a rather larger sprawling village and is now, again, in my opinion, over populated with holiday villas and apartments. However, it has not lost it's charm and continues to be a lovely place for a holiday. Marmaris has no resemblance to Kalkan whatsoever except that your fellow holiday makers, as in Kalkan are mostly Brits.

Even their basic premise is wrong, as I have read that Kalkan has never been consıdered a fishing village but was historically used to export wine produced from the local bumper grape crops.  Maybe the Torygraph's toys are still out of the pram after the election non-result.

Jeremy Seal regularly gets Kalkan completely wrong in his editorials (imho) - one wonders whether or not he has actually been when he makes such comparisons.
