Holidays 4UK / Aegeanflights in administration
« on: August 03, 2011, 01:11:27 PM »
Breaking News on the BBC is that Holidays for UK has gone into administration. Apparently it mainly handles flights to Turkey but no news on the number of travellers affected yet, Aegeanflights is one of its trading names.

I feel so lucky I listened to my inner voice.
Flying into Antalya and out of Dalaman in September (week in Side and week in Kalkan) and Agean was a contender for the return.
Worried by posts about them continually cancelling as will ahve disabled Mother with me so went in end with TC.

All I can say is Phew, Phew, Phew and to all posters who have updated previously.

Got caught in the Xcel episode and hes to re-book :(

Thanks

Thank God for EK!!!!

Just "took a glance" - was going out on Friday. Saw H4U had gone bust - BUT have managed to book with Monarch for Monday - bit more expensive, but - I think - essential!!!

booked on Sunday night for next year, got great prices ::) It's infuriating that every time this happens companies continue to take peoples money even though they must know what's about to happen. Just got back 2 weeks ago with them so suppose I'm just glad it didn't happen sooner. Ah well next months holiday to look forward to. Anyone heard any rumours about Jet 2 ::)
Wonder if I'm a jinx as the other year had just come back with Flyglobespan and they went bust :o
Hope this doesn't have an adverse effect on the many businesses in Kalkan who were already reporting a quiet season ???

All very sad, but their past history has not been good, so not at all surprised.  We stopped using them 2 yrs ago.

I am genuinely surprised. Been using them for many years and never had any real problems. Last month had excellent flights, great flight times and no delays, so other than some cancellations and delays not really sure what past history they have which is any different from most operators. Or maybe we shouldn't ever trust any of them!!!!

After a stressful morning, our friends have managed to book with TC to fly out to stay with us a day later than planned so there's a happy ending for them. Not so lucky for our villa-owning friends who are already receiving emails cancelling bookings.

We used Aegean for a good few years,  2-3 times a year & thought they were good, even recommened them to others. Used to book via landline & got to know some of the ladies in the office even.  We then started having problems, time & date changes but we continued to use them because we thought that we were just suffering 'hickups'.  Then things turned even worse where we again suffered time & day changes then destination changes, Izmir, Bodrum for eg, then bus transfers to Dalaman, not good at 1 in the morning after delays in departure total hours of travel, 21 in one case.   Some of these changes were very last minute.  We wrote to the company expressing our concerns, the reply was not very encouraging in other words 'take or leave it', so we left it & them. :(

Found this on another forum discussion about the collapse

"I think people are missing something here, H4U and Aegean were agents, at the mercy of the airlines regarding cancelled flights etc. The airlines would have been the ones cancelling/changing flights and the agents the ones passing on the bad news, and they have not gone bust, they are still there. So when you book through another agent, these airlines will still be there to alter times dates etc."

Wonder how Onur Air will come out of this as I'm not aware of another agent who uses them

Onur need to get their act together and allow online bookings from the public!  Just had to rebook with Easyjet, and prices not too bad considering only booking for 7 weeks time.

We are out on Monday ,booked May 2010 for the flights! Have managed to rebook with easyjet at not a cheap price, but at least we will get our money back as we paid  for the original flights on credit card, plus there are only the two of us. Its the families I feel really sorry for, looking forward to an imminent departure only to find it is all cancelled! Lousy!
Funnily enough this year we didn't bother booking early with Aegean!

while it is the airlines making the changes / cancellations H4U and Agean continued using said airlines and now many holiday makers suffer again. I flew with Onur in 2008 and vowed never again but dont recollect using H4u (or maybe the brain cells are diminishing) For the famillies where re-booking will cost a fortune and those who cant afford to pay twice its sad :(

Dont want to worry you chappies. I booked with Thomas Cook for September, Their CEO Manny Fontenla-Novoa was booted out yesterday as they are in a lot of debt, Their financial liabilities predicted to be at £1.4bn by December.
I hope they can at least hang on till the end of October  :o
