Duty free question
« on: May 15, 2015, 08:56:36 PM »
Hello all.  I know the limit from UK airport is supposedly one litre of spirits per person, but can we take more?  Ideally we want to take 3 x Bombay and 1 Caorun and it'd be cheaper to get at Edinburgh duty free rather than at Dalaman arrivals. Ta!  Btw, we're not complete lashes, honest!  ;D

Rachey we have done that before, taken 4 litres between the two of us from the uk they advise you when you buy that yr only allowed 1litre each so take the risk of them being confiscated tho never have long as you put them away in yr hand luggage I wd say you be fine. You can also get really good prices on the plane too, sometimes on jet2 cheaper than the airport!!

Hi Hobbo, I'm fully aware of the stated limits, hence my question if one can take more than the limit  :)
Chrissy - many thanks for that - I was sure I'd seen posts on here somewhere about folk taking more in, but couldn't find it on the search. We can store our extra in our cabin case, so that should work. Looking at webcams and weather forecasts it's looking perfect. And we just booked with Ali for our trip on Zeus. Magic.  :D :D

Rachey, we have been prevented from buying 4 litres at Manchester once, but only because it was all on one passport. I bought 2, then BH went back with his boarding card and bought another 2, so make sure you are together or do it in stages. We always buy more than the allowance but only because we are bringing some in for others. Yes, you run the risk of having it confiscated but its a chance we take.
Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt :)

Thanks for that great tip K4E.  We're wanting to bring the extra over for a few friends too.  Sorry we'll be missing you again this year - but we'll keep the garden in good shape for you!  :D
