Cycling Tour of Turkey
« on: April 13, 2010, 01:53:28 PM »
I am sure I read a recent post from a fellow EK member informing us of this Race and the fact it passes through Kalkan.  I must be losing it because I cannot now find it!

My thanks to the poster because I have discovered today that the race is being covered on Eurosport. They are currently racing between Bodrum and Marmaris and as you can imagine there are some beautiful pictures especially in HD.

If members are interested they pass through Kalkan on Friday on the stage between Fethiye and Fenike and live coverage appears to start at 1.00 p.m. (UK time)

Let's hope they are not beyond Kalkan before coverage starts, although even if they are I am sure it will be well worth a look.

Infact here is a link to details of the Race.  It includes the route and they are scheduled to be going through Kalkan between 2.15 and 2.30 local time, so unfortunately they are likely to be in the Kas area before TV coverage starts.

They are obviously riding down the D400 from Fethiye.  When we were over about a month ago the road surface was truly awful even though it had been redone not long ago - I hope they don't all get punctures!

...and the diggers move over for them  ;D ;D ! Shame there won't be any coverage in Kalkan - but that's such a lovely route to Kas, I'm setting Sky+. Thanks, Hummingbird
Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt :)

Did you see it -  I have only flicked through it so far but what pictures?!
Ironically live coverage started as they were leaving Kalkan in about the Kelebek area, so the section down to and around Kas looked absolutely beautiful with pictures of Kapatus beach etc.
They also included a beautiful shot of Kalkan from directly above showing the harbour in all its glory.
Also as they were leaving Kalkan the camera in front looked back at the peloton (cycling speak!) showing shots of Kalkan and I could see our new Villa on the hill for which we are returning in 2 weeks for completion.

What an advert for this part of Turkey it looked truly stunning, lovely green land and turquoise sea, with separate sweeping shots of sites such as Xanthos and Patara.

I was only watching for the views but got quite into the cycling  ;D
As Hummingbird says the shots were sublime and the weather looked perfect.
