What ONE item can''t you live without - even when you''re in Kalkan? 

What do you NEED to take with you? 

Maybe it''s a food item, or a particular pair of shoes?

Mine is my filled make up bag!!!   Vain I know, but it''s best not to scare the kids
In fact the last time we went to Kalkan I left my make up at home, so guess what?? Yep bought a full set of make up at Manchester Airport.

Use it at home, on hols, all the time..theres always got to be one in my bag.
If i''''m not wearing it i feel uncomfortable.
I''''ve been known to travel back home or call at a shop if i''''ve forgotten to take one out with me!
So, imagine the scene....2006, Manchester airport, nice young lady asking me to unload ALL liquids, gels etc.
She took away my solid nivea lipbalm!
I''''d bought that cos i thought it didnt appear on the list of banned items.
Straight through customs and into Boots for a new one!

Speaking of which....can''''t imagine going anywhere without a packet of tissues either!!!

Dont they sell limes in Kalkan....   I feel sure that they must...pretty sure we have got a lime tree in our garden - but then it could be a lemon tree - what I saw on it was green - never found out if it turned yellow or not..coz it disappeared.... 

I too take my tetley tea bags and marmite....(although haven''t we ''done'' this on a previous thread..or am I going mad..!!)

It''s interesting though and there are newbies who missed the first thread and can tell us what their essentials are. When I posted last time, it was my squidgy cushion. I now have one there as well and have bought a travel memoryfoam pillow which takes up less room and (hopefully) is just as comfortable for a little snooze on the plane. My new essential is my "EnjoyKalkan" badge. LOL.
Perhaps, we should look at resurrecting some of the other old threads that were popular?

I could never ever think of not having nivea cream and a lipstick or lipbalm. I would panic without them off on hols in the morning and I have to check and re check these two things.

Felicity- no limes in this part of Turkey, not even lime cordial- unless it''s imported. It will have been green lemons that you will have seen. I always wonder why- other than they don''t feature in Turkish cuisine. Would be very interested if anyone has successfully tried to grow a lime tree as other citrus fruits are in abundance.

How interesting Mercimek....it must be a culture thing then coz surely a lime tree is just another citrus fruit as you say....!!  Well it must be a green lemon tree or maybe a yellow lemon tree..I guess time will tell - if they ever stay on the tree long enough..(all one or two of them!!) LOL!!

Hi All, - Last time in Turkey, our Host at the apartments introduced us to small, green oranges (maybe mandarins - not sure) in our G&T - they were wonderful!  I think they were oranges - they were certainly delicious in a G&T.  SO good that we bought a small orange tree when we got home (loaded with small green fruit) but all the fruit had been picked and soaked in Gordons after 3 weeks and the plant didn''t fruit again!  Has anyone else tried this in their G&T?  Any bars in Kalkan offer them?  regards, Tuba

we know where there is a lime tree in kalkan...we have picked them off the floor before,i have grown lemons and limes in my conservatory at home .....but these ae seriously better!!

Blue Lizard...where is the lime tree in Kalkan? I''ve never been able to buy or find limes in this part of Turkey before so I''d be very interested to know. Two limes = a pair of diamante flipflops in terms of weight for my case, so if their has to be a choice (and I can live without either..) I''d pack the flip flops and head for the tree on arrival

Swimming costume - where ever I go, whatever the weather, never know when that opportunity arises to slip into the water - all the better if it''s sea water - but fresh will do!
