Booze and mobile.

Five weeks to go before our first holiday in Kalkan, and whilst most of our questions have been answered by previous posts, two final questions have cropped up :
Is it more economical to buy booze for the apartment in the airport duty-free, or in Kalkan?
Will my orange mobile work in Kalkan?

Buy your booze at the airport if you want premium spirits. If you don't mind the local spirits they are readily available in the supermarkets. Your phone will work in Kalkan but make sure you have "roaming" activated on your account first. Charges do vary but on contract phones it will be an average cost from 75p per minute to your phone and 50p per minute to the person you are calling. Depends what tariff you are on with orange.  Best suggestion give them a call and they will be able yo tell you (dial 150 for personal phones or 345 for business phones).  Hope this helps and have a great time. I am on orange and because Turkey is not in Europe they dont offer a very good deal.  I need to call them back to check but the best deal when we enquired a few weeks ago was to pay them £5 and then they would reduce the costs to some ridiculously extortionate amount like 90p to receive and £1.40 to call out per minute.  From advice on the forum, I am going down to the post office to call from there!  Apparently that is as cheap as chips!

Definitely buy spirits in the Duty Free or on board the plane.  Usually very good offers of 2 litres for around 20 pounds.  Imported drinks in Turkey are very expensive.

I'm on Orange and it's really expensive to text or make any calls.  We're taking over an old phone this time and buying a Turkish sim card.

The post office is really cheap to phone home -it's only a couple of lira for a 10-15 minute call.

As others have said, buy your spirits duty free.

Many thanks for the helpful replies, duty free it is then for the Gordons and Courvoisier!  I`m on pay as you go, and normally  in Spain or Tenerife my mobile just switches automatically to the local network and you never find out how much each call costs, but it sounds to be very expensive in Kalkan, so i`ll give orange a call
