Can anyone tell me if the Istanbul to Dalaman flights come into and depart from the Domestic or International Terminal

I will be using the Istanbul - Dalaman flight for the third time this year in September. If this is a connecting flight from the U.K. then you will be bussed from the domestic terminal at arrival in Dalaman and taken to the international terminal to collect your luggage, however strangely on the return journey you just check in at the domestic terminal and depart from there.

I know this sounds a bit wierd and it caused confusion with the car hire company I used last time who were waiting at domestic arrivals for me, but this has been the situation on both of the connecting flights on T.A. that I have used this year.

I think it is to do with the fact that you have to pass through customs on arrival at Dalaman.

I guess that if you have stayed over in Istanbul then your luggage will have passed through customs there  so you will exit via the domestic terminal on arrival at Dalaman in those circumstances.

If you are hiring a car or have a transfer waiting you need to make it clear to them which circumstances apply to you.

Hope this helps.

Ian

It can be even more confusing as you now have to go through immigration, i.e. buy your visa, at Istanbul.  Also on a flight in January this year from Heathrow, the plane was late and we didn''t make the connection at Istanbul.  Turkish Airlines were excellent and put us up for the night at a hotel and provided dinner and breakfast.  On the early morning flight to Dalaman the next day there were six international travellers.  At Dalaman we were separated and bussed over to the International Terminal where we witnessed the spectacle of the lights being turned on just for us!  Once we got to the luggage carousel our bags were there but no customs man only one airport official.  It really was a bit of a farce.  On the positive side it was the fastest arrival from leaving the plane to being outside the terminal - 10 mins max.

Just a word of warning the car hire companies don''t seem to know about this arrangement so our car was waiting at the domestic terminal.

Thanks Ian
We are stopping in Istanbul for a couple of days on the way down, so will be traveling on an internal flight, so will pass through the domestic terminal I guess having already done the visa bit in Istanbul.
