TRANSFER FROM ANTALYA?
« on: May 08, 2010, 09:54:02 PM »
Can any one advise me, we normally come to Kalkan every winter with Thomas Cook landing at Dalaman - but their flights are somewhat fewer this year and stop after the 12th November then start again for Christmas - However we can fly in to Turkey cheaply with FTCook Manchester to Antalya but it would mean a transfer! of a greater distance - has any one done this how long will it take and as we are only planning a one week stay! I know its worth it when you are there but any one any further info or advice? the flight times are brilliant so we will arrive and depart at good times which is something!

I flew back from Antaya last year,3 hours with one stop for drinks ect,its a long way,but if it is worth it to you,do it,its not a problem.
during the summer the tranfer goes over the high roads, but in winter I think they use the coast rd which will take longer.
EFES TIME AGAIN !

You did very well to complete it in 3 hours with a stop Fidimax.
We flew back from Antalya late yesterday and drove from Kalkan via the mountains.
It’s a beautiful drive with fantastic scenery including snow capped mountains and a reservoir near the top which is a gorgeous turquoise colour.
They are improving the road at the Antalya end which causes a bit of a detour and I also noted that they are building a new road through the gorge to avoid the pretty but very twisting section around it.  This will significantly improve this route when completed.
We used the coast road on the way in.
Both routes are about 3 hours max for us the mountains are quicker and may reduce to 2 hours and 30 mins when the improvements are completed.
Either journey is an experience the first time especially the mountain route so should hopefully add to your holiday rather than detract from it.

It probably could have been in less time, but for a very dodgy driver,2am,clear rds,he would put his foot down up to 70mph on a clear stretch then slow right down to 5 yes 5mph for no reason at all,at one time we were driving in the ditch at the side of the rd and the rd was clear, going into Antalya on the carriageway/motorway near the Zoo,he was in the middle lane and slowed to 5mph ,again no cars in front,a truck stopped inches from our car, needless to say I didnt sleep on the transfer, but I think the driver might have !!!!!  :o
