Thomas Cook Flights
« on: February 21, 2009, 09:45:52 AM »
This is from Travel Weekly:-

"The Thomas Cook Group is ending free luggage allowances on flight-only bookings made through the group.

The new rules come in on March 2 and will end the current ruling which allows customers to put luggage of up to 15kg in the hold free of charge.

Instead the passengers who have bought flight-only tickets will have to pay £8 each way on a short haul flight and £15 each way on a long haul flight to stow luggage weighing up to 20kg in the hold.

Only customers buying a package holiday from the operator will be exempt from the changes.

Customers wishing to avoid the charges and travel with their luggage will instead be liable to excess luggage allowances set by the airline servicing the booked flight.

The charge will be mandatory for customers booking within four days of departure.

A Thomas Cook Group spokesman said: ""This change to charges is in line with the flight-only market."

........... I wonder when they will consider charging for use of the toilet on board flights?

Bookings made before 2 March still include the 15kg allowance.

Thank goodness for that, I booked a DLM - LGW flight last month. Was getting a teensy bit upset until I saw this post.
I hate using this company but beggars have to cut their cloth and all that.

Thomas Cook charge an extra £5 each way to up your baggage allowance from 15 to 20kg at the moment anyway, so even though it does grate that they are now going to charge for all baggage, it really only equates to an extra £3 each way.  I know others charge more.

Why not charge a nominal fee for the ticket - then weigh the passenger & luggage together & charge per Kilo !!!

Its a great idea until you go to check in for the flight home and find you cannot afford the fare.

Should have kept quiet about the tolets its given them ideas -  Ryanair''s CEO Michael O''Leary has just been interviewed on the BBC and said that they were looking at charging £1 to use the toilet.

I think that that is their point, People are not spending enough on their planes and they are looking at several ways to regain the lost revenue.
Doing away with the check in desks so people don''''t have to get to the airport as early so, don''''t spend in the airport on food and drink, they buy it on the plane. Brilliant idea, except that what is going to happen is that passengers on short flights will just wait until they get to their destination to eat, drink and pee.
