How far is Gumbet from Kalkan ?

Hi,

As the subject heading says............Can some one please tell me how far (in miles) is Gumbet ?   How long (approx) is the drive  ?
Pushing my luck now !........ any idea how much in a cab ?  (return)

According to an online distance checker it's 122 miles to Bodrum, which is a few miles from Gumbet. Don't know about cost.

Using Google Earth it is 306km or approx 190 miles and it will take approx 5 hrs  to drive.
No idea about cost of a cab.
This route might take a bit out of the way, and into the mountains.

Charlie...... Its not for me, I know a couple who are there while Im in Kalkan next week...' they were asking the questions' 

Anyway whats it like ?     Am I right in thinking.......LOUD       Moonlight is loud to me

You could always take the direct bus from Fethiye to Bodrum- departs Fethiye at 16.00 daily. Then 10 mins by cab at the other end.

Yes around 5 hours by bus. As kalkankiki says bus from Bodrum to Fethiye and then onto Kalkan.  I'd say LOUD pretty much sums it up.  The Moonlight would pale into insignificance!

My friend lives in Bodrum and has driven to Kalkan - think it takes her around 6 hours but she has a baby in the car with her so makes frequent stops. 

I first went to Gumbet with my family in 1989 when I was 10 and it was barely even a resort back then.  I then went back in 1999 and by then,  I'd say it was somewhere between Laganas in Zante (worse) and Las Americas in Tenerife (not as bad) so God knows what it is like by now

You can get the Izmir bus (10.30am) to Mugla and then a further bus to Bodrum.Total cost 38 lira.Then you can get dolmus from Bodrum to Gumbet for 2 lira.Total travelling time around 6 hours.The Izmir bus is big and comfortable with films/music,free hot and cold drinks and snacks and plenty of toilet breaks.Taxi would be very expensive, I am sure.
Gumbet certainly isnt like Kalkan!!!! However I spent a few very enjoyable days there in August.Its cheap and the hotels are mixed, some very loud and busy and others more secluded and good.A best seller in most of the restaurants is the 5 lira full english breakfast! Also most of the restaurants offer free bottles of wine with your meal and discounts of about 20% on food.The waiters at many establishments also served meals then got up to sing or dance!!
Bodrum is really nice,a lovely harbour and marina and Marks and Spencer too!!! Not many British tourists around.Lots of little shops and cafes.Plenty of flat places to walk and just 10 minutes on the bus from Gumbet (buses are very frequent and run into the evening).

Have to agree with Amber I too found Bodrum very nice and quite cosmopolitan however didn't like Gumbet at all.  Re-visited Bodrum about 4 years ago but haven't been back to Gumbet since my first visit 12 years ago.  Didn't like it then and think I'd like it even less now.
