Dalaman airport
« on: April 15, 2010, 11:12:27 AM »
Security search positions have now changed at the airport. Instead of having a secondary x-ray check at the departure gate, this has now moved to just in front of passport control. The good news is that all the seating at any of the gates can be used at any time.
When we left last Tuesday only one x-ray machine was being used, which was Ok as ours was the only flight leaving. I can forsee big queues at the busier times if more machines are not used.

Hi Baclava,

Were you able to take any liquids through the security point?

No, when we travelled last week we had to leave all our drinks behind before we went into departures.

Most annoying, as we had come prepared to avoid being fleeced at the airport. From memory (so might be a bit out) a can of Effes was 15TL, a coffee about 9-10TL and water 8TL.

Thanks for the update. Might be worth paying to use the CIP lounge I think, especially if delayed.

More worrying is the cancellation of flights due to the volcanic dust cloud over England. I guess some travellers will be having an extended stay at Dalaman.

the dust cloud is in fact over the whole of UK not just England - flights in Scotland were very badly affected this morning, not sure if they've resumed yet. It would be terrible to be "trapped" in Dalaman - a hostage to their extortionate prices!
The irony is, it's a beautiful sunny day - not a cloud (volcanic or otherwise) in the sky.
Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt :)

If you're not already on your way to Dalaman, stay where you are. The latest info is that all flights in & out of the UK are suspended until 13.00 hrs BST Friday 16th at the earliest. the latest update is due at 02.30 BST Friday 16th. Keep an eye on
www.nats.co.uk for the latest info.

Mrs Del has already been delayed once, now due out 18.50pm Friday but looking increasingly doubtful & getting fractious [me, not her].

Do these geological conditions have anything in common with the election debate? One is a disaster that's spreading a cloud of doom & despondency across the country.
The other is a volcanic eruption in Iceland.
I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy

Latest update is all flights are banned from English airspace until at least 19.00hrs. Other european destinations - Paris, Frankfurt, Brussels, Schipol also closed. Some flights from Scotland may get away - there's flight just left from Glasgow - Canada. Ironically Iceland's airport is unaffected and flights are going in/out as the dust cloud is travelling south away from them!
There's some talk on the news that airspace in England may stay closed until Saturday night, but there will be an official announcement again at 20.00hrs tonight
Good luck and best wishes to all the potential travellers
Rosie

Anyone who has booked with Aegean flights can find advice, what to do and updates for flights due to depart on the H4U site, under the news section. Aegean flight site doesn't mention it!

British Airspace still closed until 1am tomorrow morning at least , latest update. Some transatlantic flights have taken off from Glasgow(diverted from Gatwick) but they only have permission to fly until 6pm today - don't ask me why  ??? .
If you're in Kalkan, enjoy the sunshine and don't make your way to Dalaman until you've spoken with your airline - use the number they ask you to call to reconfirm flights to find out what's going on. The airspace above many parts of Europe is also affected which will have an impact on flights leaving Turkey for UK, I'd have thought.
