Samira Gardens
« on: February 04, 2008, 03:03:53 PM »
Please can you tell me if the Samira Gardens in Kalkan was previously the Tekinberk Hotel and if it has been refurbished.  I am thinking of booking this year.  The Tekinberk Hotel does not have great reviews, but the Samira Hotel and Villas are very popular.  If the Samira Gardens hotel has been refurbished / is now part of the Samira group, I''ll book it.

I''d be grateful if you could also point me to any info on Samira gardens

I presume you got this from the Thomas Cook website. The photograph is indeed the Tekinberk & this is still being sold as the Tekinberk on other websites.we have stayed next door in the Dionysia which is lovely. The Tekinberk looks very nice but never seems to have many guests.PS for some really good prices on the Samira,Samira De luxe & the Tekinberk check out.www.travelrepublic.co.uk

I have been told that the Samira Gardens is now being run by Banu and her new husband. Banu had been helping to run the Samira Hotel last year, when her brother was in the Navy. I think it is being renovated but don''t quote me. As an aside Mustafa is engaged to a pharmacist from Fethiye and the wedding is in August.

Thanks for your replies Johnjen and Roxie.  I''ve booked Samira Gardens for Sept 08, so any further info from anyone is greatly appreciated. I am particularly interested in whether the hotel is being renovated and whether this will be finished for the summer.  I would also like contact details for the hotel, if possible. I''ll try emailing the Tekinberk.

Kind regards,
Suz

Hello,
Samira Gardens is being renovated for the new season. They did a similar job with the Samira Hotel appartments last year and they turned out really nice.
Enjoy your holiday

Hi
I''ve also booked for the samira gardens, 2 weeks in Aug. Will it be scorching?
When will the renovations be finished by? Anyone know?
So will the Samira gardens have their own pool or will they be sharing one? I''m a little confused and slightly concerned to be honest!
Is Mustafu the owner / manager?
Anyone actually stayed here?
Thanks
Hayley

Hayley
Just to put your mind at rest. The Tekinberk(or Samira Gardens as in Thomas Cook)has it''s own pool, the one in the picture & a very nice pool & pool area it is too.As far as refurbs go,the rooms were all refurbished approx 5 years ago & were really ok as they were albeit basic & on the small side.if they are being refurbished again all well & good but I think u would be have been happy with them as they were.I think the hotel has suffered from a lack of good management & marketing for a number of years & this is the first year it has been used by a mainstream tour operator. It is in a very good position very central to the village & did have great sea views from some rooms. Most of the views have been lost now due to building of new apartments, although the view from the roof terrace is still intact.I am sure you will have a great holiday there. You can''t fail to fall in love with Kalkan & its people.

Having only ever used Tekinberks pool - I must agree that the pool and pool area is delightful!  The location is spot on - so very central - and like others have said - you will absolutely love Kalkan - and yes August will deffo be SCORCHING!

Enjoy!

Hi Hayley,
Renovations will be completed soon! Mustafa,s dad owns Samira Hotel and the Kosk restuarant but Mustafa now runs both witha little help from Dad. His sister Banu and her husband will run the Samira Gardens. Both have a lot of experiece in the Hotel trade. You will not share a pool. Relax and enjoy your holiday. You are in good hands.

I''ve booked Samira Garden on 23 May for a week thanks to positive feedback.  Latest reviews of Tekinberk on TA were awful but information posted here has given me the confidence that it will be fine.  And I''m going with a friend who hasn''t been to Kalkan before so I know it''s going to be just as exciting as my first visit!  Can''t wait...

added bonus is there is a little track directly opposite the hotel that takes you through the taxi rank car park straight to the top of the village (by the old dolmus station) ;)

Hi there,

My boyfriend and I have just returned from a week at the Samira Garden, which was indeed previously the Tekinberk.

It was a great hotel! We liked the look of the Samira Hotel also, but chose the Samira Garden as we thought it would be a bit more friendly and intimate as there are only 16 bedrooms. We were right, it was lovely. The staff were very nice, food great and quite cheap, hotel scrupulously clean, fab views from the breakfast roof terrace, lovely clean pool which was never busy as it''s such a small hotel.

I think you guys who wondered whether it was a marriage thing may be correct as the guy who runs it is called Tekin and his wife Banu is the daughter of the people who own the Samira Hotel. They both speak English well and they can''t do enough for you. We hope to go there again later on in the year.

The location was fab - only a couple of minutes walk from shops, bars and restaurants.

The only slightly negative thing I would say is take your own hairdryer! Their ones were not great and hurt your thumb as you have to constantly press a button to make them work. Also we didn''t have hot water when we first arrived, but they soon sorted that out.

I would definitely recommend the Samira Garden!

Lauren :-)
