ODAK TERRACE
« on: September 04, 2010, 11:52:02 AM »
Never appear to see many comments about this restaurant.
Situated above a shop just down on the left hand side from the taxis.
Ate here once for breakfast, again for lunch and also dinner during our recent stay. Three different experiences and each one absolutely delightful.
Tried an English breakfast which was excellent - the mushrooms alone were well worth the visit. Can't remember the cost but it certaily wasn't expensive and was exceptional value. Don't expect to see the pompous why come all the way to Turkey to have food from home brigade here as they will be elsewhere trying to find English tea, Italian coffee, French pastries and copy of the Daily Mail!
Lunch was again extremely good, great value and the Efes glasses chilled to perfection.
Dinner - superb. Without doubt the most impressive table setting I experienced with ultra clean tablecloths, napkins, cutlery and glasses - indeed that's more than can be said about some of the top rated restaurants on this site. Sitting at the front also gives a great opportunity to see all the people walking past in their evening finery.
Made a big impression on me.
The menu is not the most innovative and does not give you that WOW factor but let me assure you that the food is brilliant - prepared by the husband and wife while the son and daughter look after you. A really friendly team.
The house red wine was more than acceptable.
Great food from a family who deserve to be successful.
We ate here three times, albeit at different times of the day, Oz Adana we went to four times, three for lunch one for dinner (Ukell is a star and just loved the Robbie Williams photo), and we only ate dinner at the same restaurant twice and that was at Kaptan - only because their steaks were the best (aged correctly) and the homemade cheesecake was to die for. You always tend to go back to your favourite on the last night and that's what we did. Mahmut, Executive Chef, produces great food in such a small kitchen.
While highlighting steaks I must add that Kosk and Alternatif came a very close second.
However, Odak, would I go back again - without doubt.
Please remember though what floats my boat etc etc etc.
I did read a lot of reviews before this visit but I never allow them to influence my decision on where to go.

Hi Paschu - the Odak Terrace sounds really very good - don't think it's had a mention here before, so thanks for that. (How can it be that the very thought of a delicious mushroom nicely cooked can get my tastebuds working overtime?) :P
You mention that the restaurant is "on the left hand side down from the taxis" - would that be on the opposite side of the street towards the old town or on the same side with the taxi's on your left?

The rest of your choices sound fabulous too ... cant wait for October - though every day my restaurant ideas list gets longer...

Opposite side of the road to the taxis on the way into old town.
Directly below Odak is a shop selling newspapers, drinks etc etc etc
Yep the mushrooms were excellent!

Odak was the first restaurant we ate in on our first visit to Kalkan. Was incredibly good value and the food was delicious. Will have to pay a visit in two weeks when in Kalkan.

Like Kalkan Kat Odak was the first restaurant we ate at in Kalkan three years ago (we've been coming for each of the last three years) and we've always had our first and sometimes last meal there. .

Lovely friendly welcome and always delivers with fabulous food. My wife had a fantastic meze starter they rustled up this year.

Nice to see them mentioned!

Echo views on Odak. Went there first about 9 years ago and was first restaurant I had puffy (Lavash) bread. It was owned by different family then but just as good. Current owners come from Gocek a few years ago and remembered me from there. My Mum has mobility problems and they couldnt do enough to accomodate her. Food always superb, went twice for dinner first time having the Lamb stir fry (kavurma) and second time asked them to make me a liver kavurma (off menu).

As well as being above shop its also above the Soup Kitchen if that makes it easier.

Enjoy
