Scottish bank notes
« on: July 07, 2010, 03:16:16 PM »
I've just been searching on the forum and the last mention of difficulties with Scottish notes was last autumn.  Does anyone know of anywhere in Kalkan that might have given and started accepting them?  'No' so far from PTT and Ziraat Bankası.  Thanks

Do you have some Scottish notes you need to get rid of?  If so, perhaps some Scottish forumites would be happy to  bring out extra English notes and swap them for your Scottish ones?  I'll happily do that when we return to Kalkan in September  :)   It's windy in Edinburgh today....but at least not as bad as Sunday with gales and downpours!  Counting the days til we're back in heaven...

It might be worth pointing out that as of June 30th any old "English" £20 pound notes with Edward Elgar on the back will no longer be accepted in shops and will have to be exchanged at a bank....if you are coming home from living in kalkan at some point best check your dosh ;)
People of Britain!!......CHEESE!!...why do cheese packets say things like  "aged for 20 years".....yet tell me to eat within 3 days of opening....PAH! and double PAH!

I'm here just now and as most will know very definitely Scottish. Unfortunately I leave tomorrow night though so not got much sterling left and in anycase probably a bit too late to help. If they are absolutely desperate I think I've a few notes and could get some Lira from a cash machine. Let me know if any use. I'll check back later (probably much later tonight)

Glad you got it sorted out. Must have ben a bit of a nightmare for them but at least they will not make the same mistake next time. We always take only English notes and get them easily from HSBC and Natwest cash points up here and also the ATM'S at Glasgow airport give out English notes.

unfortunatelly in Kalkan there is no bank accept scottish bank notes. to change those we need central turkish government branch and we haven't got in kalkan. so the best way if some one goes to scotland in winter they may change with english pounds.
