Don't mean to steal your thread, but i was wondering if such trips could be done as a couple? i notice the boats normally carry larger parties....

We hire the Romantik for just the three of us..go for the larger boast its much nicer and the crew are fantastic bit extravagant but well worth it if you want a truly peaceful day out bay hopping and relaxing out on the Med.... :) :)

we always use abdis boat Pina X its a beautiful boat, fantastic food and the kitchen is spotless. Abdi is a great captain who goes out of his way to make sure you have a wonderful relaxing day.We have shared the boat with other people which is great fun and had private trips. ;)

Welshgal, Yildiz 1 is a fairly small boat - maximum of 6. We've hired it for just four of us, but it would be perfect for two. It costs about £100 for the day, includes tea/coffee on arrival, lunch, snacks and afternoon tea - a stop for a mud bath is also included, only alcohol is extra. Adem is a lovely captain and we always have a fab day with him.
Madness takes its toll.....make sure you have the exact change!

We always go with Ali on his lovely boat Zeus - usually just the two of us, but last year we took a couple of our chums with us, and they said it was the highlight of their holiday.  Ali is brilliant and you can go spearfishing with him to help catch extra fish for his incredible and delicious on-board barbecue.

I'm with Rachey on this one.  Zeus with Captain Ali is a must.  After many years, each trip with him is still one of our holiday highlights.

Totally agree with Rachey  and Charlie.  Have been going out on Zeus for years and it just gets better and better. Ali is a wonderful cook and very knowledgeable and hospitable host  We have had hours of pleasure on the boat. Sometimes just the two of us, more often with friends.  We consider it the best value and most enjoyable day out you can have.

Are we talking about a Gullet which is very big or one of the smaller boats. I am wondering if welshgal  assumed you meant Gullet which seems a fair response  :)

Chris and I and our friends Martine, Paul and their daughters went out on Moby Dick 2 last October. As you say not the Smartest of boats but the two guys on the boat were really lovely. To see one of them prepare a superb meal for the six of us (and themselves) in the tiny galley was facinating. The guy that did the cooking was a swimming instructor in the navy and The captain was in the military police. they told us many stories of their time in the military and made us laugh a lot. There was such a lovely atmosphere on the boat, even though the weather wasn't all that kind. We will definitely be seeking them out again when we are in Kalkan again in 2 weeks time.  Cheers, Allan.  8)

Tonik, thanks.....i took a look on the net and the boats seemed large, which is why i asked if a couple could venture out. I assumed by the size of them to go as a couple, would be very expensive.

I don't mind just the two of us going, or sharing and making new friends, just wondered what would be best for the two of us.

Do i have to pre book for the first week in October? was another question i was going to ask......

Right....off to Nerja on Saturday, with a bit of luck and absence of the ash cloud.......when i get back, i'll be getting all excited for Kalkan, if i'm honest, it looks prettier!!

welshgal, Zeus boat will take only 2 people.  The cost would probably be around £80 - £100 for the both of you for a full day inc a wonderful bbq'd lunch.  It is a very special day out and even at that price to have a boat all to yourself for a full day is IMHO excellent value for money.  You can book with Ali when you arrive in Kalkan.

I think that Ali on Anil is a great boat but may be fairly booked up, we have booked 4 days out of 14 on boats and Ali could only offer us a few days at that point which was the end of February. You can e-mail them at jacksonvictoria@hotmail.com this is a very popular boat with a lot of regulars. Yildiz 2 or now called Kalkan Yildiz 2 is also a great boat to share or take out for a group and Captain Osman is a great host with his wife a wonderful cook, they have a website at www.yildizboat.com

How many does the Pina X hold and do you have to hire it for the day?  As we are just a couple we would like to join others on a boat trip and not hire one just for ourselves.

Hi Kalkanbelle
"Pina X" is a great boat 15 metres in length and a wide beam, accommodating 12 passengers in comfort. She can be hired privately or even better share your day with others, cheaper too
Captain Abdi cooks an amazing lunch, chicken curry etc, fruit break, tea and coffee.
she is usually moored next to the new large boat in the harbour "Sea Bella".

I will vote for those I know and use regularly ... Hazal, Anil and Zeus.  Hazal and Anil are large boats that can accommodate 8 - 10 guests.  Hazel will stay out as late as you want and go where you want, weather permitting.  If weather permits, the best place to go is to bird island, but this is a journey across open sea so weather has to be good.  Usually no or max 1 other boat there, hundreds of birds and just rocks and transparent water, fabulous !

Zeus is smaller and less expensive.  Captain Mehmet Ali speaks English and his food is excellent.  Can accommodate 8 guests but I recommend a max of 6.
