Weather in May
« on: February 07, 2010, 07:06:06 AM »
Hi all, have just booked our second holiday in Kalkan, flying out 7th May.  Just wondered what the temperature will be then.  Also we are staying at the Pasha Apartments - can anyone give me any feedback on what they are like.  Stayed at the Asfyia Hotel last July - believe the Pasha is near there can't wait to be back.

Hi
We usually go out for May, and the weather is always fab! It is the best time of year (in my opinion), and you get mainly warm days :). The evenings are usually warm enough to eat out and the nights are comfortable. You may have an odd rainy day, but it will still be warm.
An excellent time of year for exploring Kalkan and the surroundings, but maybe a little to cold to swim?
I can't comment on the Pasha, but I am sure someone will be along who can!

Pasha apartments are past the Asfiya and further up the kalamar road on the left hand side.

We have been to Kalkan in May  Since2001 and the temperatures during the day are 23/30 degrees+ as the month progresses.Cooler in evenings but still can sit outside.Sea at this time of year is REFRESHING!!.Slightly fewer people at this time but maybe that is changing as the Euro zone becomes less popular. A lovely time of the year as everything is new /fresh.

I went out on 30 April last year for a few days and it was lovely and warm in the daytime and also warm enough to eat outside in the evening with a jacket on.  There was also a storm one night followed by non-stop rain the next day but on the whole I would think that the second week in May will be a very nice time to visit.

About 20 mts further up,opposite the building next door to the Asfiya, you must have seen them when You stayed at the Asfiya,
we stayed at Pasha two or three times, great place and very relaxing,if you can get the apt on the top floor it has a large terrace with great views over the bay and down to the centre.
EFES TIME AGAIN !

Coming to Kalkan in may, so read this post for an idea of what the weather
would be like, however have noticed Blue Lizards post about mosquitos.
How bad will they be? Can anyone recommend anything to take that they
have used that has helped? Ang recommendations woud be much appreciated.

Have read the reports of lovely weather at the moment, but please can I ask what the evenings are like at the moment.  Just packing to come on Friday and want to know about cardigans, pashminas etc.  Am I going to freeze?

Hi Carol

We are here at the moment and it has been quite mild in the evenings but now again the breeze picks up so I would bring a light cardi. Weather says it's going to rain over the next couple days..hope it stays like today. You certainly won't freeze.

londonev, to answer your post about Mosquitos. BL was refering to the olive flies which are different and seem to be a nuisance during the day (as opposed to mosquitos being a problem after dusk) in the early part of the season. If you type "olive flies" into the search box you will find everyone's tips for dealing with these pesky little things.

I only do Deet...the stronger the better...to see off flying and biting insects, having tried all the "natural" remedies to no avail over the years :)

Let's know how you get on with it, londonev.
I get mine in Boots - their own make in a silver bottle, called Repel. If you run out Off! available from all the supermarkets in Kalkan is also pretty good.
